Did anyone or anything influence your career aspirations or the decisions that you made in your career?
No, I would say it was all driven by me, against a lot of pressure to do other things. When I got the job at the bank, my parents were very overjoyed but that's exactly why I went to university, to get a safe job, in the city, earning lots of money in the bank, that was ideal, they were very very proud. When I gave that up they couldn't understand it, to go and be a teacher, they think teaching as a drudgery, poorly paid, no satisfaction and not held in esteem by society so why would I want to go and do that? So in actual fact I think all the pressures where on me to do other things and perhaps I suppose my husband, as a teacher, would have supported and understood why I wanted to do those sorts of things and he understood why I wanted to do a doctorate and supported me in all that as well but erm other than that, no I'd say, it's pretty much driven by me.
