Did you ever regret leaving academia?

No, no I couldn't have been an academic, I knew that and you know er, I remember my supervisor constantly badgering me to try and get bits published from the doctorate and write articles, and I really didn't want to do that. Oh and trying to network and remembering to go and present at conferences and it just isn't me. As I understand it, as academia is, it's very important for funding and things. I couldn't have been very good at it, and I also don't think I could have got on any better in terms of my research or my writing than I did at the end of the doctorate. Whereas I felt that at the end of the BA I had so much more to give, at the end of the doctorate I was never going to get any better and I think you have to be able to get better if you're going to be successful at it.
