Transcript:

Can you tell me when you completed your PhD and how many years it took you?

It was 2000 when I submitted and had my viva and everything. And it took six years I suppose.

And how old were you when you started?

22.

And did you do the bulk of your PhD fulltime or part time?

I'm afraid I was registered fulltime.

And how did you fund your study?

Some self-funding and some - I got a college fee waver, something like that so that covered the fees. And then I was teaching a lot to live on and being a tutor as well so that provided accommodation.

And did you work at all beforehand?

Before starting a PhD?

Yes

A few months in a shop between undergraduate and post graduate.

Did you have to overcome any obstacles before embarking on your PhD?

Not really I mean I did get something in the first year so I had to pay for that and it was only – it was sort of 'umming and ahing' whether I would upgrade after the first year from the MPhil to a PhD or not. And so I wanted to hear what I was going to get the (…) so I split the fees. So that was the only issue I think.
