Transcript:

When did you begin and complete your PhD?

I began October 1999 and submitted March 2003 and so it was three and a bit years.

And how old were you when you started?

24 and so I was 27 when I submitted it.

And did you do the bulk of it fulltime or part-time?

Full-time completely.

And how did you fund your study?

Funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Board.

Did you work at all before you embarked on your PhD?

By work I presume you mean…

Paid employment

Not full-time no, only during the gap between my BA and the beginning of postgraduate study I spent about four months working in an office but nothing apart from that. I married in 2000; my wife and I actually met at university. I had stayed on at university from my Bachelors degree to do both my Masters and my PhD and so we were located in the same city the whole time. And so I guess there was a sense of continuity. I didn't move, for example, to a different institution because we were established. My wife was working and so we didn't feel the necessity to move and I was happy to continue with the supervisor that I had.
