You were studying full-time
As a funded student?
I was lucky that way, I got an overseas research scholarship, which covers the difference between foreign fees and home fees for British students. And I also had a scholarship, which gave me maintenance and so I had fully funded living expenses. And finally, another scholarship from something called the William Goodenough Trust, which is a funny place, it is basically a giant hall of residence in the middle of London but you live there free. And so I actually did fairly well through my PhD.
And did you complete in the set period of time?
I started in 1998 I was supposed to finish in 2001 for the standard three year research PhD. I actually finished, and had my viva in January 2003 and so it was about four years to submission and then quite a wait for the viva.
