What or who influenced some of the decisions and actions that you took?

I suppose my supervisor was probably the main positive one in that he was the one that said 'what you need to do is a book and four articles, that's the target', it was the first, after your PhD 'that's your target, to turn your PhD into a book and get three four articles in print'. He said 'that's when people start looking very seriously at your CV'.

What was the time frame he suggested for that?

Within kind of a couple of years of doing a PhD. The sooner the better. I think what I didn't do and wish I had done was to try to get a couple of articles done before I even finished the PhD so that they were already there. What I did do was finished the PhD and spent a year writing up the articles that came out a year after and then finished the book and that came out so my book came out at the very end of 2001 I think officially it's 2002 and I finished at the end of 1998 so that's kind of how my time frame worked.
