Heather - expectations of where the PhD might lead
Heather considers how her career path revealed itself to her.

Would you say that when you started the PhD that where you've ended up is where you were aiming at or that it didn't quite work that way?

I think that I have ended up where I was aiming at definitely but it wasn't as clear as that at the time. When I was going through it it wasn't totally clear that things were going to go in the way I wanted to. I wasn't absolutely certain. Part of me did think that I could pursue my interests within the framework of an academic position and I wondered if I could do that. I wasn't totally sure. So at the time it wasn't utterly explicit to me about where I was going but I think actually it's always been there since I can, since way before my PhD, from a very young age I kind of knew where I was going and what I wanted to do so it's become explicit - but it was implicit during the years of the PhD I think.
